About

"The Morning guy"

Hi there, my name is Simon Wicht, I'm a Swiss drone photographer, and I've been passionate about art and creation since I was 15-16.

I help and support companies and regions (in terms of tourism) to improve and renew their visual communication, through and with new photos. With an approach based on the "costumer experience", I help my clients to have better tools to attract their own customers. I work mainly with regions and tourist offices. But I also work with private clients, such as companies, hotels, tourist activities and so on.

I also work in the real estate sector to boost property sales.

Now, I'd like to add the importance of timing. The word "Photography" comes from the ancient Greek φῶς, φωτός, phôs, phôtós ("light") and γράφω, gráphô ("to write"), literally: "to write with light" (thanks Wikipedia).

Which I like to interpret as "to write light". So it's vitally important to have the right light in a photo, to have your right light.

For my part, I love morning light, so much so that some clients have called me "the morning guy", and I really like this name, as all our shoots have taken place at daybreak.

The drone also offers a unique approach to aligning yourself and creating the angle and framing you want with precision, all in three dimensions.

My "signature shot" is the Topdown. This means photographing something from exactly above it, with the camera at 90° down. It's very dynamic and graphic.

I then add the principle of negative space. Which, contrary to what its name might suggest, is a very positive thing.

If you'd ask me, negative space gives the subject of a photo, the room it needs to breathe.

And then, on the win-win side, with all that breathing space, the graphic designer that comes after me will really appreciate having space and room to work on adding the texts and other layers to go towards your final product.

"Hard work will always beat talent." I'm a hard worker and perfectionist when it comes to image retouching. A true autodidact of the "YouTube generation", I taught myself by applying what I saw and liked on the net.

I'm a very organized person, and I like when processes are optimized, simple and easy to work with.

As an A2-certified drone pilot, I make sure that all flights and operations are totally legal. By the way, I'm no stranger to the administrative work that comes before a mandate.

Now I'd like to invite you to visit my photo gallery to get an idea of my approach and my work. Each section has its own brief introduction, contextualizing my approach.

Enjoy :)

"Being an eternal creative"

Here's my story.

I started by playing guitar in a rock band, then another, more prog-rock.

Then I got hooked on electronic music when I was like 19–20 years old.

DJing for about 5–7 years, and then I also became a producer. I really liked to create “melodic techno”, well-paced and very progressive. I've always put storytelling at the heart of my creations. The principle of “Entrée - Plat - Dessert” when telling a story is very important. I used to transcribe this in my productions and in the sets I played on stage. I then toured for a few years with a manager, and travelled all over Switzerland to play my music.

In 2018, when everything was going very well with music, I passed by the drone section of an electronic store. I stayed there for a very long time, hesitating about buying one. At the time, the drone in question was "the new DJI Spark".

I ended up buying this drone. I was going on vacation to Sicily the next day. Furthermore, I had barely managed to take my very first flight with the drone when I found myself already in another country.

A word of clarification: at the time, and therefore at the very beginning, I only had one battery that gave me a flight time of 10–12 minutes, and my smartphone as a remote controller, which only gave me a range of 25-30m.

Even with this very modest setup, I immediately felt like I was at a pivotal moment, creatively speaking.

"It's the spirit that counts, not the vessel." That's what has always driven my creativity. The important thing for me is to create.

When I got back from vacation, I immediately bought myself a proper remote control and a second battery. With these additions, I could fly much further away, and my flying time doubled.

This was a real gas pedal, making me realize that the drone was THE thing I now wanted to do.

Once Adobe Lightroom (an image processing program) had been bought and installed, I began to move more and more away from Ableton Live (my music creation program) and more and more towards opening up Lightroom.

At the end of 2018, just before going on vacation to Australia, I bought myself a “real drone”. By that, I mean, a drone that behaved much better in flight and would finally allow me to shoot in raw format. For those in the know, I bought a Mavic 2 Pro.

This purchase was once again an accelerator. Every day, I noticed how interested I was into this new world.

At that time, it was early 2019, I was living in the beautiful city of Zürich and the law on drones in urban environments was much more permissive. This gave me a huge “playground” in which to learn photography.

Because architectural photography quickly became a real passion for me. And Zürich was immediately the city without limits in terms of inspiration.

Experiences and years followed one another, and here I am in 2024 (as I write this), living in Yvonand, on the shores of Lake Neuchâtel.

What will happen next?

Hum, I'm going to continue with photography, and I hope to get more and more assignments.

But THE thing I want to add to my skill set is video.

I still need to train, both on a practical level with a drone remote control in hand, but also in terms of knowledge and (above all) ease on and with post-production.

Let’s Work Together.

I'm ready, batteries are fully charged. Ready and clear to take off.

You are ready to take the higher ground!

I speak French, German, Swiss-German and English. I love to move around. Furthermore, I like to travel.

So let's connect :)
